How to transport a machine

MINI-TRANSPORT of machinery:

  • Most mini machinery can be transported behind a car, van or pickup with a category B driving licence (the gross weight of the combination must not exceed 3500kg). The basic models of the mini excavators we offer can be towed behind a car on an unbraked trailer (max. gross weight up to 750kg).
  • For mini excavators and other mini machinery weighing over 600kg you will need braked trailers with a gross weight of 900-1300kg or 1500kg, which is usually the maximum for a category B driving licence (3500kg).
  • If you need to transport several machines at once or a larger volume/weight of load, licence category B can easily be extended to B96 (the gross weight of the combination must then not exceed 4250kg). This adds a noticeable 750kg compared to category B. Owners of SUVs/pickups with a gross weight of 2000-2500kg can then tow a trailer with a gross weight of up to 1500-2000kg, depending on the towing vehicle. These are mostly twin-axle trailers, which offer excellent stability, twice the load capacity of single-axle ones, and in the event of a puncture you can usually reach the nearest petrol station or a safe place and easily change/repair the tyre. It is a slightly more expensive option, but experience usually proves that a twin axle was a good choice.
  • The last and highest category B+E allows a gross combination weight of 6000-6500kg. You can then tow a trailer with a gross weight of up to 3500kg, which is the equivalent of e.g. a basic Avia truck. The container carrier we offer, for example, is a direct competitor.
  • If you want to use the trailer not only to transport construction machinery but also soil, sand, gravel etc., a tipping version is a good choice. Once loaded, the material can easily be tipped either mechanically or hydraulically, extending what your rig can do. A tipping trailer combined with a 4x4 vehicle can stand in for a missing mini dumper and save you a lot of work when moving bulk materials.
  • The undeniable advantages of trailers include their simplicity, versatility, low compulsory insurance compared to e.g. flatbed trucks and vans, and a very slow loss of value - they tend to hold their price. Last but not least, the first technical inspection is only due after 4 years.
The decision is yours – whichever model you choose will be an excellent addition and helper for your mini machinery.
